The program for the day was the Rotary Foundation of Knoxville Scholarship Awards Committee presentation of college scholarships to two area high school graduates.  RFK Member Ray Mowery presented the program on behalf of the Committee.  Ray noted the hard work and excellent leadership of Committee Chair Jennifer Sepaniak.  He noted that all of the Committee members seemed to enjoy serving on the Committee and the process of meeting and selecting scholarship award recipients, and encouraged all Rotary Club of Knoxville members to try to serve on the Committee at some point.

Donde Plowman began by noting that she was on her way to Omaha to watch Saturday’s game against LSU in the College World Series, noting that she happily stayed up late watching the Vols win their exciting game against Southern Mississippi.

Today we had the opportunity to hear from Julie Tryukhan, from Ukraine. Julie and her two children fled from Kyiv in 2022 to Knoxville.

The Rotary Club of Knoxville held its annual Peace Award Ceremony at the Knoxville Museum of Art.  President Bill MacGrath provided some brief history of the Peace Award, then introduced Kiera Wyatt from C.O.N.N.E.C.T. Ministries to formally introduce and recognize the 2023 Peace Award Recipient, Vivian Shipe on behalf of I AM the Voice of the Voiceless. In her introduction, Ms. Wyatt referenced Matthew 5:9, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.”
