Meeting Recap: The Appalachian Equality Chorus
Rotarian Joe Stabb introduced our program, The Appalachian Equality Chorus, led by Artistic Director Dr. Alan Stevens. The program began with the chorus singing three songs: ”Let the River Run”, “The Love That Will Never Grown Old”, and “Celebrate, Dance to the Music.”

Representatives from Webb School of Knoxville Interact Club, Knoxville Catholic High School Interact Club, and the University of Tennessee Rotaract Club provided updates on their activities over the 2022-2023 year. Meeting Recap: Everything You Wanted to Know About NIL But Were Afraid to Ask
Sandy Martin introduced our speakers—Mónica Lebrón, UT’s deputy AD of Championship Resources, and Kat Jones, director of Name, Image, and Likeness. Both joined UT in 2021. Monica came from Tulane and Kat from the University of Central Florida. The title of their talk was “Everything You Wanted to Know About NIL But Were Afraid to Ask.”

Meeting Recap: Dr. Charles F. Lomax, Jr., President and CEO, Knoxville Area Urban League
RCK Member Chris Lambert introduced our speaker, Knoxville Area Urban League President and CEO, Dr. Charles F. Lomax, Jr. Chris remarked that Dr. Lomax embodies ‘service above self,’ one of the Rotary International mottos, and Chris’ personal motto with respect to public service, ‘get involved and stay connected.’

Rotary Honors Teachers of the Year Susan Parker and Skikila Smith
At its April 4 meeting, the Rotary Club of Knoxville honored Susan Parker, a fourth-grade teacher at South Knoxville Elementary School, and Skikila Smith, a ninth-grade English and advanced creative writing teacher at Austin-East Magnet High School, as its 2023 Outstanding Knox County Teachers of the Year.

Meeting Recap: Teacher of the Year 2023
RCK Member Lynne Fugate, former Knox County School System Board of Education member and current Knoxville City Council member, introduced the Teacher of the Year Award program. Lynne emphasized that from her years of experience and perspective, we are blessed to have a good educational system here in Knox County.

Meeting Recap: Josh Smith, The Fourth Purpose
Master Service Companies was started by him in Kentucky, moved here in 2008, and sold 3 years ago. First company to win two Pinnacle Awards first as a small and then a medium-sized company.

Meeting Recap: City of Knoxville Chief of Police, Paul Noel
RCK Member Russ Jensen introduced City of Knoxville Chief of Police, Paul Noel. Chief Noel assumed command in Knoxville in June of 2022 after having served in several capacities with the New Orleans Police Department for 25 years. He was most recently a Deputy Superintendent of the NOPD.

Meeting Recap: The Orbit Village Project in Nairobi, Kenya
RCK Past-President Townes Osborn introduced our guest speaker, Cyndy Waters, founder of The Orbit Village Project in Nairobi, Kenya. Ms. Waters began her comments by acknowledging her connections with Rotary, including her father’s membership in the Sevierville Rotary Club.
